Allow disabling 'empty' state for dropdowns

For the dropdown components like location, text and lineage selector, it would be great if there was a setting to disallow the empty state. Maybe it would also default to the first one in the list if no default is supplied explicitly. 

My usecase is, I have a "lineage explorer" and there always needs to be a lineage, otherwise the UI makes no sense.
