Objective

To enhance the educational value of the Minetest Emotions Mod, we aim to base our representation of emotions on established psychological frameworks. This approach will ensure that our mod is grounded in widely accepted theories of emotional classification, making it a more effective tool for teaching emotional intelligence.

Task

  • Research and evaluate common psychological frameworks for classifying emotions.
  • Select an appropriate framework to use as the basis for the emotional representations in our mod.
  • Ensure the chosen framework can encompass both basic and complex emotions.

Criteria for Selection

  • The framework should be comprehensive and widely recognized in psychological literature.
  • It should offer a clear distinction between different emotions, including basic and complex ones.
  • The framework should be applicable and relatable for the intended age group of our mod.

Resources

To kickstart our research, here are some well-known emotional frameworks we can explore:

  1. Basic Emotion Theory (Paul Ekman): Proposes a set of basic emotions with universal expressions.
  2. Plutchik's Wheel of Emotions: Visual model of emotions that shows relationships among them.
  3. Geneva Emotion Wheel: A tool for representing the complexity and intensity of emotions.

Possibly too abstract, but worth mentioning:

  1. Parrott's Emotions Tree: Categorizes emotions into primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.
  2. Appraisal Theory of Emotion: Focuses on individual's evaluation of events as the basis for emotion formation.

Action Plan

  • Assign team members to research each framework.
  • Schedule a meeting to discuss findings and decide on the most suitable framework.
  • Document the chosen framework and its application to our mod.
