It seems to happen easily that the bio is deleted again or the pfp is reverted due to sync issues #7002

It seems to happen easily that the bio is deleted again or the pfp is reverted due to sync issues. I've noticed the vast majority of users have no bio set, and I wonder if it's because due to it getting inadvertently removed again for many of them.

I'm not sure yet what exactly wipes the bio, but I've seen the pfp reverted for example when sending a message from an older device that is still syncing and doesn't know the newest changed pfp, and sending a message before it has fully synced. However, I don't think that was the reason for my bio reverts, but I guess it could be a similar but slightly different sync or timing race condition.

  • Operating System (Linux/Mac/Windows/iOS/Android): Linux
  • Core Version: v1.159.4
  • Client Version: desktop 1.58.2 (git: flathub)

Expected behavior

pfp and bio aren't so easily reverted from sync related glitches. I suppose one way could be to prevent sending messages from a device that knows it hasn't fully synced yet, although I'm not sure that would fully address the bio reverts I'm seeing.

Actual behavior

Pfp is reset (somewhat rare) and bio is wiped (apparently somewhat common).

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. Other than the pfp outdated sync situation described above, I'm not sure how. I'm fairly certain there is some other way to trigger this that affects the bio in particular. Perhaps somebody else has an idea worth testing on how to trigger it.
