a tip, you can have a /docs folder exposed to github pages, see
https://help.github.com/articles/configuring-a-publishing-source-for-github-pages/

this way you dont need the gh-pages branch, and no need to push automatically/manually to pages branch

I think that makes more sense though for documentation you write within that docs folder (i. e. markdown) and not for already rendered html.

The current solution is a big workaround anyways. My goal is to have travis run some kind of CLI command (just like javadoc) to generate the documentation from the checked in source code and push it to gh-pages (to avoid documentation update noise and unnecessary duplication on master). A friend of mine is currently working on a JS parser for that. Right now I have to export the ABAP doc in eclipse, delete the current one in the repo, put the new one in, run a script to remove the export timestamp and then commit... and of course all of that is outside of abapGit.

An alternative would be the docker + NetWeaver developer edition + web service approach, but I doubt that will come in the foreseeable future (mostly license wise).

I had a similar idea earlier today. Parse ABAP via JS and export the doc to HTML.
I created https://github.com/Sirius-A/abap-doc-export to implement that.
