Should gatsby-plugin-sharp version be the same as Gatsby's version?

I think I've heard something about versioning of some plugins has to follow the same version as Gatsby itself. Is this the case of gatsby-plugin-sharp?
I see that the latest version of both packages is the same but I can't find anything about versioning rules in the README or if I try to Google it.
