We had a productive convo about the 'no-dues criteria' (criteria being drafted which will allow some orgs to be exempt from the membership dues that are being proposed). • We raised concern that the checklist being drafted was US-centric and slanted towards organizations formally structured as 501c3's, which would make it difficult for grass-roots communities and international orgs to participate. • @JoyceBettencourt voiced her thoughts on same in support of OMI and another org Open AR Cloud, similar to OMI and based in Norway (Managing Director, Jan-Erik was in this meeting — good synergy there, @Avatarjoy invited him to OMI meeting). • I (@funksoup had a chat w @evo the other day & she had a convo w Neil yesterday as well, voicing her concerns about the same as well as the lack of a clear path for individuals to contribute. • I added language into the google doc that includes real world examples of communities who may be challenged by these criteria yet should still have an opportunity to participate in MSF. I suggested alternatives such as the option to include documentation of work that forwards the mission of MSF, so the evaluation wouldn’t be strictly based on a checklist. It opens up the criteria to include communities that aren’t formally structured yet are doing good work towards metaverse initiatives. • Neil reassured everyone present at last night’s meeting that they intend on keeping their door open towards OMI due its work advancing metaverse initiatives; he further expressed support for writing inclusive language into documents. IMO: We must keep making sure that inclusive language is written into policy. We can keep having convos, but if the effect is meant to be long-lasting, then it has to be written down into the criteria & bylaws & such. ✨ Draft of still-evolving criteria: |
