Fallout from the #[used] change in 1.89 (including rp-rs/rp-hal#948 and JoNil/elf2uf2-rs#40). But also, how do we make sure we find these issues before regular uses find them by updating their stable channel in rustup? It's not a good look for stable-to-stable updates to break things (even if it's arguably our fault things broke, and not the Rust Project's fault they broke).

Now would be a good time for any "hold it for X" comments on rust-embedded/embedded-hal#566; I'm going through some testing that should eventually result in readiness for an embedded-io 0.7, and then it should just be a matter of letting-it-sit before we can semver-compatibly declare that 0.7 as 1.0.
