Could use some help integrating this into WLED #5

Hi John,
we are approaching WLED 0.16 beta release and one issue we discussed is OTA updating older devices: 0.16 will only use IDF V4 builds which require an update to partition tables as well as the bootloader, exactly what your code does.
Would you be willing to lend a hand with some guidance or even coding? I recently wrote a bootloop recovery (wled/WLED#4793) for intermediate failures but it cannot recover if the device won't boot at all. What we would need is an "intermediate" version containing the ideas from your code here.
