Configuration file

I couldn't find any information on this so I assume there isn't one currently but I was wondering if there is any chance or thoughts on using a yaml configuration file?

Edit: I mean a separate file from the compose file. Something that can be edited. I do not know a lot about this but is that what a .env file is for and can I use one with this?
