Small commits that allow for a custom step size (per connection) and the use of different data types besides GAUGE (plugin-wide).
One thing I would like to note is that start_threads now takes an argument of send_interval (defaults to 10s which is what it was doing before) anyways.
As for the different data types, ideally this would be per-metric but I haven't yet written this functionality.
