Recenty I stumbled upon a quote which stuck in my head for a few days:
I'm a lousy programmer. However, I am less lousy than I was last year, and significantly less lousy than I was 20 years ago [source]
This is obviously true, but I asked myself: How lousy have I been? How and what did I actually start to code? And most important, where is all the stuff I wrote when I was a teenager?
After a few hours of investigation I found a little 8 letter (!) folder called "CODESAVE" in the clouds. I can only guess that it ended up there after a long journey starting on floppy disks, over CD-R and DVD to USB-Sticks.
What I found is not less then the result of probably thousands of hours of coding I did from 1996 to 2000 at the age of 13 to 17. In these years - before the "discoveries of later teenage years" and the Internet distracted me a little - I used Qbasic, VisualBasic, Pascal and Delphi5 to develop many little tools and games. Of course not every line of code is brilliant, or even good, but that's okay, because they helped me to get less lousy...
