I added a plugin that changes the request URI to the actual event if Thunderbird doesn't seem to know about it yet. This prevents the UID collision as proposed in #17915 (comment).
I'm not sure how Thunderbird will behave, when it sync the next time and the actual event appears under a new URI. I have to test a bit more.
